Noisy Display

Design Photo:

Abstract
The LPC1114 controls a row of RGB LEDs fixed to the end of a rattle. The LEDs blink in patterns while the rattle is rotated. This way images are drawn in the air. 4 user images are stored in the flash of the LPC1114. These images can be edited on the LPC1114 using the built-in editor. The built-in editor uses a PS/2 mouse as input device and a television set (scart input) as display device. Due to the noise, the device is suitable for use during the world cup soccer.

Very Cool Idea
Though this TYPE of product (positional dot matrix display) has been around for a while, this is probably the most innovative application. Your video was pretty funny. I like the built-in editor (mouse interface and TV in terface). Since this would be a VERY high volume production item... To save cost, you may consider a PC application and a USB interface (or serial interface) for programming. The application would allow simple text input and a graphical editor for ASCII graphics and may include a library of sample graphics (and include a link to a web-site with more). With a name like Termohlen (At or Near the Mill in Dutch), I'm interested in anything from the Netherlands. Good luck! 'Looks like you'll take the grand prize. Maybe I'll see you in Boston.

USB interface
Of course a PC interface is much more convenient and cheaper. Doing video on a micro controller is just more fun as it is really time critical. I couldn't get the linking of assembly code working, otherwise a lot better resolution was possible.

Great!
A really cool idea! Also you make good use of the different functionallities of the processor. Efficient design and funny video!

Go Hilgers!
Hahaha great! Too bad that we have to wait another 4 years for the next worldcup...

Brilliant!
Funnier (and a lot cheaper) than an iPad!

This is great!
I realy like the scart + mouse functionality. Your design is a nice example of the design flexibility the LPC platform has to offer. I wonder which of the two is the more annoying, a station filled with vuvuzelas or a giant supporter crowd equipped with your gadget... Only considering the graphics your rattle definitely wins :p
